Doors of Chicago

I wanted to do a whole long lovely post on all the different Christmas Doors I saw on my vacation in Chicago, but unfortunately I never got around to taking more than a few pictures when we were downtown.   So here for your viewing pleasure are the few that I did take......

And one more door, although it is not dressed for Christmas it still has an awful lot to do with proclaiming Christ.....

Fall Decorating

I've been busy trying to make things a little bit more cozy for the winter months ahead.  I really love my pinks, greens and whites for spring and summer, but just about this time every year I yearn for the more cozy and warm colors of reds, golds, and browns.  With the added bonus of my moms expected arrival I finally took the time to decorate the guest room.  Soooo thankful for  thrift stores!

These are shots of the guest room as it looked last week. When we moved in I was going to paint the room, so I never bought curtains and just threw on my old King size comforter on a Full size bed mind you. Well, as you all know LIFE happened and I have never gotten around to painting.  I'm thinking sometime in the early winter I'll paint so for now this is what I've done to make it a little more warm and inviting.

I really wanted to put a chair in the room so mom could enjoy sitting in there when she needed her alone time,  so I had to turn the bed around to make that happen.

Just a few shots of my wreath I doctored up for this year to save a few pennies.  I love the sign, as we celebrate the harvest not halloween.  It was just what I needed to revamp the wreath for one more year.

Parlors????

Do they still exist?  I never hear any one talk about sitting in the parlor any more , do you?

I was just listening to music on my blog, specifically Stranger on the Shore and it's funny how music can bring you back, back to the days when there were parlors, long hot summers and drapes closed against the hot sun.

Such wonderful memories of growing up in the city/village.  I have visions of my mom sitting in the front room listening to music with a cup of coffee.
The house having just been cleaned and she was taking a well deserved rest.

The peace and security that comes from families, from parlors, from great memories.

Thanks Mom!
