The Weight of Words
Once a few years back a dear friend, older than I and much wiser was sharing about some of the hymns we were singing at our small group. He said he had difficulty singing some of the words. I of course was shocked, how could that be? He had been walking with the Lord for many years, of course these words of dedication would come naturally.
Ahh, but what my friend knew that I did not, at least at that point in my walk was deep trials, deep heart ache is very painful even with the Lord right there by your side. When we sing are we singing about some romantic sacrifice off in the distance or do we really know the pain, and suffering that comes from giving our all to the Lord and yet still sing?
It reminds me of the widow and the two mites, she gave all she had. That is in reality very difficult, wonderful to romanticize about, but when the rubber hits the road do we really give our all?
My friend did sing those songs, but with knowledge and I believe that made it all the more sweeter to the Lord.
Just some thoughts to think about.
(As a side note the stain glass window above was designed and created by my friend's wife, it is in the entry way of a church in Long Island)
